John Carpenter's

Memorial for Steve Crawford

It is with great sadness that on Nov. 4th, 2008 Steve Crawford
a long-time contributing member of this site has passed away suddenly and
unexpectedly in his sleep at the age of 38. Our deepest condolences and prayers
to all of Steve's family members and friends. Steve (who went by the handle of
SPC) submitted absolutely incredible contributions to this site, a true fan of
the film to the end. Steve wrote some awesome essays with math calculations that
would boggle the mind of most people, he put together complex and detailed maps
and a timeline of the events in the film.
He was the person who on our trip up to
Stewart, B.C. found Outpost #31, the remote filming location. Using old
production photos from 1981 Steve managed to guide us effortlessly right to the
exact location - I would have been lost for days up there! But after studying
his notebook full of photos and using boulders and the tree line as reference,
Steve just pointed out the window of our truck and said "That's it, that's the
spot. That's where they built Outpost #31."
Steve made it up to Canada again for THING-FEST 2003 and met
other fans. I wish I had been able to spend more time with him, he was such a
genuine guy. I know he will be missed here and I know I will miss him back up in
Stewart. It will not be the same without him....
